Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot Cards Deck – Large
By Aleister Crowley
One of the all time classics of modern tarot, Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot has remained one of the most popular decks available for decades. Since its initial publication in 1969 it has attracted a steady stream of acclaim for it’s striking beauty, as well as its depiction of an understanding of occult knowledge that was gained over a lifetime of devoted study.
The deck is often cited as one of the most controversial available, mainly due to the fact that Crowley was a controversial figure himself. He produced this deck with the help of artist Lady Frieda Harris, with many of the cards being painted in several versions until one of them was approved by Crowley. The deck itself was not published during either of the creator’s lifetimes.
The Thoth Tarot is based on the Golden Dawn tradition, and for those familiar with the Rider Waite deck, or any Golden Dawn derivative, will feel immediately familiar. Whilst the imagery does not posess the instant aesthetic punch of other tarot decks such as ‘The Tarot of the Pirates’ or ‘Undersea Tarot’, these cards represent a deeper side to the tarot world, with highly stylized and mature imagery that urges its user to delve deep within themselves to fully understand its symbolism and meanings.
This larger version of the classic deck (9.6cm x 14cm) gives its user the benefit of being able to view the rich details of each card that much clearer, an attribute which is almost essential for deep study and focus.
Included is a short booklet which contains an excerpt from Aleister Crowley’s original Book of Thoth and explanations of the meanings behind each card.
An essential deck for all tarot enthusiasts!
