Himalayan Salt Lamp – Caged Chunks
These beautiful lamps are made from Crystallized Salt, which was formed by nature millions of years ago. Salt crystal is excavated from 800 metres deep inside the earth, at the foothills of the Himalayas. Still one of the most serene and pristine regions on the earth. Each Salt Crystal Lamp is hand crafted and every one is unique.
Colours range from hues of pink, apricot, red and orange, and while they are cleansing the air, they give a beautiful and relaxing glow.
Positive ions (known as ‘electric smog’) are prevalent in homes and workplaces and are an unfortunate by-product of advances in technology. They are created by TV’s, computers, air conditioners, heaters, vacuums and cigarette smoke, and they also carry airborne allergens. Salt Crystal Lamps release negative ions into the air, which help balance out the positive ions, thereby purifying the air – much like ionizing machines.
When a salt lamp releases these negative ions, they bond with the positive ions and the airborne allergens cluster and fall to the ground. Salt Lamps are reputed for providing assistance to sufferers of asthma, allergies, fatigue and insomnia.
The resultant fresher and purer air is much the same as the invigorating air found at places such as rainforests, mountaintops, waterfalls, the seaside, or after thunderstorms, as these places also have a high concentration of negative ions.
Available either as tea light candle holders or electric lamps. Electric lamps use a 7.5W-25W globe dependant on the size of the lamp. Lamps do not reduce in size, weight, colour or shape, and will not lose their ionizing effect. Salt Lamps may absorb moisture from the air and leave a ring of salty water at the base but this is not a defect. To prevent moisture retention, it is recommended that the Lamps are left on for around 50% of the time and they should not be placed under evaporative air conditioning vents, in bathrooms or in areas of high humidity.
Replacement light globes are readily available. The most durable globes are those designed for sewing machines, fridges or ovens. Due to the low energy output of the salt lamp globes, there is currently no intention of manufacturing energy efficient globes as there is no real net benefit.
