Originally Dowsing was used as a tool to locate ground water, buried metals, ores, gemstones, oil, gravesites, malign “earth vibrations” and many other objects. It is also known as divining with regard to water divining, or water finding. Dowsing was original used with a Y-shaped twig or rod. And now is used with the popular two L-shaped rods. Individually they are called a dowsing rod, divining rod, vining rod or witching rod. Some dowsers use no equipment at all.
